Hot wing eating contest!

Why

Why this charity and why this feat?

Why the charity?

Movember’s goal is to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. For a host of reasons (I won’t get into), there is a lot of stigma around discussing men’s health, be it physical or mental health.

In fact, prostate cancer is kills more men than any other type of cancer. Moreover, 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and that 1 in 29 will die from the disease, very similar but slightly more common than even breast cancer in women.

Additionally, men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women.

I’m not saying this to in any way diminish female suicide or breast cancer research (as I am raising money for breast cancer research as well), but rather wanted to put it into perspective and expose that despite these numbers, we hardly talk about these things. That’s why I want to support this charity.

Even though the charity did not originate in Canada, Canadians are the largest contributors to the Movember Foundation. I want to help further Canada’s support for this great charity. Plus, it’s fun to have an excuse to grow out your mustache.

Why the feat?

In addition to growing out my totally mediocre mustache, I will also be doing a hot wing eating contest, similar to the TV Show Hot Ones.

For this, I will be interviewing a good friend of mine and his brother-in-law (who happens to be a hot sauce competitor) about men’s mental and physical health.

The reason why I chose this feat is because I want to have a discussion. That is part of what Movember is about. Men’s health is often stigmatized and just having a dialogue about mental and physical health is beneficial. However, I want it to be more than just a discussion, so figured I would introduce some fun to the feat by having some incredibly spicy wings to munch on throughout. This way, the event is informative, yet entertaining for viewers.
