Voters chose carrying 20L of water for 6km in sandals, for Water.org
Why the charity?
Since there are just so many great causes out there, I wanted to give people the opportunity to provide their own input and ideas as to what matters to them.
I got dozens of suggestions for charities and feats, and ultimately had a vote. The vote was close, and received over 100 votes, but ultimately, carrying 20L of water for 6km in sandals in support of Water.org won.
I am very excited to fundraise for this charity because I believe it is one of the best causes out there, and something that with the right resources and support, we will be able solve a worldwide crisis. For example, 844 million people around the world don’t have access to safe drinking water. Thanks to charities like Water.org and government support, 2.6 billion people have gained access to improved drinking water since 1990.
This might seem odd since in Canada, we have access to more fresh water than any other nation on Earth. The average Canadian uses 329 litres of water per day. That all being said, many Indigenous communities in Canada still do not have safe drinking water either, an issue we need to all recognize.
Why the feat?
This represents the average distance and amount of water that women and children carry every single day in developing countries in Africa and Asia.
April 24, 2021 is the planned date, but will be dependent on weather.
